Policy Narrative
Retired faculty of Northern Illinois University will continue to receive the same level of library benefits as they had when employed. The Retiree's account ID is valid for 180 days past retirement. For Retirees who are not faculty, Retiree accounts may be requested once a retirement date has been specified. Retirees without a valid account ID must join the Annuitants Association to receive off-campus access to library databases.
Benefits
- Library privileges subject to the Libraries' Circulation Policy.
- Use of the University Libraries during open hours, including public computer terminals, self-serve printers and photocopy machines.
- Check out materials with your NIU OneCard. The employee NIU OneCard should continue to work after retirement. If the NIU OneCard fails to work after retirement, contact the library (815-753-9844). Personnel will determine why it’s not working.
- Reference service at the Research & Help Desk, including queries via telephone and Chat with a Librarian (text, email, chat).
- Use of the library’s webpage, including My Library Account and the catalog.
- Interlibrary loan through Information Delivery Services.
- Access to Microforms and the microforms reading room.
- Faculty may apply for study carrels in Founders Memorial Library.
